Laguna Hanson
Laguna Hanson is one of two places in Baja to be in the pine trees. This northern Baja lake is surrounded by Jeffrey pine trees and granite boulders. This is one of our most popular trips where campers get to experience a truly unique Baja mountain camping adventure at 5,000 feet (1,500 meters) elevation. Watch Laguna Hanson video. Laguna Hanson is located inside Parque Nacional de Constitucion in the Sierra Juarez Mountains.
Day 1:
This Baja adventure begins at our meeting spot in El Cajon. Optional stop at the Calimax in Tecate for quick last minute food/drink shopping. Hey it's all about pumping some pesos into the local economy! On the road again to arrive by dark.
Day 2 & 3: This Baja mountain camping destination is an ideal place for hiking, boulder hopping, mountain biking, bird watching, and rock climbing. Enjoy unlimited photography opportunities during the golden hours. Wide open spaces for mountain biking and walking! No fishing or swimming in the lake. We have spotted kayaks and inflatable mini boats on the shallow lake. Join us to experience the beauty of mother nature in this national park. Relax around camp and hang out in your hammock. Horse back riding at the nearby ranch (bring cashola). Stargazing and campfire chat with new Baja amigos. Optional Saturday night potluck - who is bringing the smores this time?
Day 4:
Breakfast under the pine trees with friends or walk around the lake. Off roading adventure back to our starting point with side exploring along the route. Stop for yummy tacos then easy border crossing at Tecate late afternoon.

Return Border Crossing
Travelers entering the United States are required to declare any meats, fruit, vegetables, plants, animals they are bringing back. Our mantra is don't bring any of these items back. Failure to declare any of these items may cause delays in secondary inspection and result in fines up to $1000. Trust me...you don't wanna go to secondary. Only pack the food you will consume on the trip. Got extras? Give it away to a local family in need.
Any fruits, vegetables, meats taken from the USA into Mexico will not be allowed to return. Here's the basic list of what NOT to bring back into the USA.
- raw fruits
- raw veggies
- most uncooked meats
- plants, seeds, soil
- raw or cooked pork
- firewood
- drugs & guns (duh)
- this is the short list and it constantly changes
